Storyville Slugger
In 1979 I stirred up the local shit for the first time by entering 8
identical prints of this picture in the Fresno District Fair photo competition,
one per category. It contained elements justifying it's entry in the categories
of Children, Sports, Travel, Pets, Portraits, Agriculture, At The Fair,
and General. My original intent was that as fair goers walked around the
hall, they would encounter this same picture every 10 or 15 feet. The cherry
on top was that the guest judge awarded it two blue ribbons and two red
ribbons. The Fresno Camera Club (who sponsored the event) felt compelled
to change the rules of many years standing so that in the future no single
image may be entered more than once. (A rule still referred to in some circles
as the E.Z.Smith rule.)
